Our Stories of Motherhood

It is the 1st of March and spring is officially here.  I have no idea where the last two months have gone and I’m a bit sad to say that they have felt a bit insignificant to me.  Nothing special has happened, but I have come to the conclusion that this might be my own fault.  So that is changing now.

I am one of those people who gets lots of good ideas, but don’t act on enough of them.  I will chew on them for a while, but then I come up with some reason why they are not for me.  I know, that I have let some amazing opportunities go, some which I could have done but of course also some which were not for me.  March is one of my favourite months, probably because it is my birthday this month and it always makes me want to do!

My blog has its first birthday at the beginning of April and I feel that it is time to up my game.  Motherhood and photography are two of my passions and I have decided to make a project where I get to combine the two.  So often when we do photoshoots with families, both mothers and fathers say that it is not so important for them to be in the pictures.  Actually mothers are usually worse and I could not agree any less with them.  It is SO important that they are in the pictures, they are the reason that the children are there and one day, the children will be there and the mothers might not be.  That is when the children are gonna wish they had more pictures of and with mummy.  This is what Our Stories of Motherhood is going to be about. I will be taking simple photographs of mothers with and without their children and I will listen to their stories.

The project will for now be shared on my blog and social media pages.  In the meantime I will be looking at some way of raising money for charity and the possibility of an exhibition at the end of the project.  Anyone who wants to take part in Our Stories of Motherhood is welcome to contact me by email or on any of my social media pages. I am so excited to see who I will meet during this project and where the project will take me.  I hope that many of you will be as excited as me and want to be part of the project.

The participating mothers will get prints and low resolution copies of the images I take of them and their children and they get to be a part of a project which will become very exciting.

Wait there is more!! 🙂  I will be giving away a FREE maternity or Mummy And Me photoshoot.  In order to enter I would love it if you would subscribe to my blog, like my Facebook and follow me on Instagram.  You can find the subscribe button to the right of the blog along side with links to my Facebook and Instagram pages.  On the 25th of March I will have a draw between everyone who has subscribed, liked and followed (you have to do all 3, IF you have all these accounts!) and I will announce the winner on Mothers Day, the 26th of March.

The photoshoot will take place in mainland Scotland or the Faroe Islands before the end of this summer.  I am based in Moray in Scotland, but will do what I can, within reason, to travel to the shoot.  Love exploring the country so any excuse for a road trip is welcome (South of Edinburgh/Glasgow might incur a travel charge).

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this lengthy post, I will be sharing more about Our Stories of Motherhood as the project takes shape over the coming weeks.  Once again, I am just so excited!

Below are some pictures from our trip to Sandend Beach in Banff earlier this week.  The weather was beautiful and I just can’t wait to return back soon.

  1. I couldn’t agree with you more and what a wonderful idea
I have often got the family album out and looked through it and wished that I had more photos of my girls and myself growing up but more so of James with his sister’s and both of us
We have two family photos , one with James Sr myself Pauline and Michelle before James was born , then one with Pauline Michelle James as a baby and me but no daddy James , there is no photo of all five of us and off course there never will be
So I would urge all mothers to fill up your albums with as many wonderful photos of you and your children so that they can one day look back and tell their children who they belong to
I know that baby James will be told about the Aunt he never got to meet ,but I just wish I had that one photograph
I wish you all the success with this wonderful venture xxxxxx

  2. What an amazing woman you are! It’s so hard not to loose yourself when you become a mummy and what a great way of combining things that you love!!!

I always tell Mr A to try take more pics of little miss A and I almost of our pics are selfies (or taken by you 😜). And he is actually getting better at it.

What a great project!! You can totally count me in! 💗

    • Thank you lovely! You will definitely be in the project 🙂 I am the same with James, feel so selfish sometimes when I ask him to take a picture of me and JJ, but then when I see the picture it makes me so happy 😀 Xx

It’s crazy when you have all these ideas swimming about in your head, but to pick that one which resonates with you and put all your energy behind it xxx
